Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre

Located alongside the Christie hospital, it is the mission of the WMIC to realise the full potential of PET based Molecular Imaging for translation in oncology and brain disorders.
The aim is to be recognised as a world leading centre in the use of PET for research in cancer patients and to be recognised as an internationally competitive centre for PET based research in brain disorders.

Work is focused on realising the full potential of PET based molecular imaging for bridging the gap between laboratory science and clinical medicine.

This translational activity rests on deriving new information about the functioning of human tumours and brain disorders and supporting the development of new treatments by providing proof of concept measurements.

The Centre has benefited from significant investment in state-of-the-art equipment, which makes the centre unique in the world:

• GE PetTrace Cyclotron
• The Quad HIDAC Camera for pre-clinical studies.
• Fifteen Von Gahlen synthesis hot cells, (four dispense hot cells and six shielded low-level activity enclosures).
• Eight of the synthesis cells along with four of the dispense cells have been installed in an aseptic manufacturing (GMP) suite that is to be committed to the production of labelled compounds for human application.
• Hi REZ PET/CT scanner from CTI and a High Resolution Research Tomograph (HRRT) Brain Scanner from CPS/CTI. For more details, visit the (WMIC) website.
