In this unique role, you’ll be at the forefront of applied research and consultancy services to customers in the pharmaceutical and research and development sectors.

APHA Scientific is the commercial brand of the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). Internationally renowned as a centre of scientific excellence, APHA has expertise in diseases of livestock, wildlife and plants - from diagnosis to surveillance. We harness this unrivalled knowledge for a host of commercial services including research and development, laboratory testing, a unique cell characterisation service, intellectual property, vaccine development and product licensing.

As Business Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for growing our commercial business in the pharma and R&D sectors. Creating strong relationships with both new and existing clients, you will develop new business and carefully manage accounts. We’ll look to you to identify potential areas for vaccine development and veterinary diagnosis in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, universities, R&D institutes and others. Working closely with our project delivery and marketing teams, you’ll make sure we make the very best of every opportunity.

We expect you to have a degree in a biological science subject and a background in R&D, preferably with a focus on microbiology. You’ll bring to the role excellent communication skills - from presentations to negotiations. Willingness to travel to customers is vital.

Person specification:

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate suitable sales experience within the veterinary pharmaceutical or veterinary diagnostic industries and a background in research and development preferably microbiology. In addition the candidate should have good communication skills (in negotiations, presentations and "one to one") have strong interpersonal skills, an aptitude for rapid assimilation of information and excellent analytical skills.


A degree in a biological science subject or equivalent is required, post graduate business qualifications are desirable.
