A unique collaboration between the three Northern Regional Development Agencies
A unique collaboration between the three Northern Regional Development Agencies and the Knowledge Transfer Network has seen Dr Daniel Smith appointed as Collaboration Manager, responsible for driving forward Bioprocessing innovation in the North.Dr. Daniel Smith will assist in the delivery of the core bioProcessUK agenda including building networks through the Special Interest Groups and the Emerging Professionals Network and areas such as Regenerative & Stratified Medicine HealthTech which will have increased priority in the KTN.
The position has been co-funded by Yorkshire Forward, One North East and the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Knowledge Transfer Network in a unique partnership that will enhance knowledge transfer in bioprocessing, leading to increased collaborations within the region and externally and increases in funding into the North of England.
Daniel has over eight years academic postdoctoral experience in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology and protein biochemistry, with particular expertise working with protein-based toxins and protein-based cellular delivery vectors. He has a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology and an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, both from the University of Warwick.
Daniel joined Cobra BioManufacturing Plc in 2005 initially as a senior scientist. He has since held other roles within the organisation, including Quality Control Team Leader (Analytical DNA testing), and Head of the Process and Technology Transfer function. Until recently, Daniel held the position of Commercial Scientific Development Manager.
Mark Bustard, Head of bioProcessUK within the HealthTech and Medicines KTN, said: "We are delighted Daniel is joining the HealthTech and Medicines team as Collaboration Manager covering the North of England.
"This position enables us to further enhance our interaction with companies and academics across these regions and work in partnership with the RDAs to exploit our sector knowledge of biological and regenerative medicines and enhance knowledge transfer."
The key aim of this collaboration is to ensure increased competitiveness of companies and academics based in the North of England with activities relevant to biological medicines.
