Bionow Awards Dinner 2007

Best of the Northwest Biotechnology sector on show at Bionow awards 2007

Last night (Thursday 22nd November) Bionow, the Northwest Regional Development Agency's (NWDA) biotechnology cluster support group, held the annual Northwest Biotechnology Awards at Mere Golf & Country Club. The event attended by some 250 guests was a resounding success, showcasing the very best of biotechnology in the region.

The prestigious awards ceremony was hosted by Dr Linda Magee, NWDA Biotechnology Sector Director and Head of Bionow, with the help of Dr Kevin Cox of Avecia Biotechnology who is Chairman of the Bionow Steering Committee who also chaired the judging panel. 

The winners were as follows:

·         Biomedical Project of the Year (sponsored by Pannone LLP) - " Plucked Hair Biomarker",  Epistem
·         Young Biomedical Technologist of the Year (sponsored by Novartis) - Dr Nicola Thelwell, DxS
·         Biomedical Start Up of the Year (sponsored by Addleshaw Goddard) - Iota Nanosolutions
·         Healthcare Project of the Year (sponsored by TrusTech) - "Osteodent", School of Dentistry, University of Manchester
·         Translational Technology of the Year (sponsored by Avecia) - "ESC Substrates", School of Biological Sciences, University of Liverpool
·         Biomedical Company of the Year (sponsored by AstraZeneca) - Renovo
 
Dr Louise Makin, CEO, BTG Plc who hails from Warrington originally, brought the awards ceremony to a close with a stimulating after dinner speech on her experiences in the world of biotechnology, as a participant in national and international sporting challenges and her charity work.

Dr Linda Magee, Head of Bionow, NWDA, said:
