Post Genome Sciences (CPGS)
Consortium for Post Genomic Science (CPGS)
The Consortium was established in 2001 to bring together the research strengths in the regions institutions. Its members are carrying out four, core programmes of research, each focussing on different, but complementary strategic research areas:
In addition to this, the Consortium is affiliated with:
- The North West Structural Genomics Centre.
- North West Genetics Knowledge Park, Nowgen.
- Metabolomics Club
- North West Institute for Bio-Health Informatics, NIBHI.
The Consortium is rooted in the North West of England, and some of its aims relate specifically to the North West; others have national and international relevance.
The Consortium aims:
- Ensure the North West's scientists realise their potential and make a significant contribution to post-genomic science;
- Stimulate the development of a more vigorous, science-based regional economy;
- Contribute to improved public health in the region.
Its objectives include:
- Harnessing programme-level funding opportunities in a more managed, coherent and integrated manner than would be possible within a single institution;
-
Developing more extensive and more productive partnerships with industry;
-
Stimulating the creation of new technology-based firms;
-
Helping to train an expert workforce.
