Skills and training development is key to successful clusters
and Bionow's portfolio of projects includes many with high
level training delivery components eg NIBHI, Nowgen, NBC,
Integrative Mammalian Biology and LSTM
Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North West
The LSC is an
English national body responsible for planning and funding high
quality vocational education and training for everyone. The
Northwest region consists of five LSC areas: Cheshire & Warrington, Cumbria,
Greater Manchester, Greater Merseyside and Lancashire.
SEMTA
SEMTA is the Sector Skills Development Agency which
covers Bioscience and is responsible for the National Sector Skills
Agreement (SSA) for Bioscience and other sectors.
Partnership for Learning
Partnership for Learning in Speke. This facility was
set up by a partnership of major companies such as GlaxoSmithKline,
Chiron (now Novartis) and Eli Lilly to deliver specific industry
training in areas such as GMP and supply chain management. PFL has already
devliered a programme of NVQ training to more than 500 biopharm
employees.
Northwest Universities Association
NWUA is the representative body of fourteen higher education
institutions in the North West of England and within this
role NWUA has
two key objectives. To provide a means whereby member institutions
may co-ordinate their regional activities and identify
opportunities for collaborative action so as to maximise their
contribution to the social, economic and cultural life of the North
West of England and develop partnerships with business, industry
and public bodies accordingly and to facilitate and effect such
joint activities or collaborations within the Region with Members
and/or non-members, as agreed by the member
institutions.
