UK Centre for Tissue Regeneration (UKCTR)

UKCTR has developed from a research collaboration in Tissue Engineering in the University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool.

The research programme of UKCTE has been funded by the Research Councils (BBSRC, MRC, EPSRC) for 6 years by an Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration (IRCol) Award.  This was awarded to Manchester/Liverpool as a result of a specific call for applications and an extensive review process.  The UKCTE research programme was initiated in March 2001.

Research of the UKCTR aims to develop and manufacture a variety of tissues for potential therapeutic use including:

  • Cartilage
  • Intervertebral Disc
  • Material Engineering

Underpinning these themes is research into cell penotypes, genetic engineering, biodegradable materials, 3D scaffolds, host intergration, immune response and generic research.
