Massachusetts is committed to growing the life sciences industry through workforce development programs and funding for drug research & development. Supporting biopharma is also the goal of the region’s incubators and accelerators. The region consistently ranks in the top tier of USA life sciences clusters. All major global pharmaceutical companies have outposts in the regions, ranging from Novartis to GSK. In the Greater Boston area alone, there are more than 730 companies within the life sciences industry.

Washington DC is known as BioCapital with its biopharma leaders committed to growing their BioHealth Capital Region cluster into one of the top three in the USA by 2023.  The US Capital region (DC, Maryland and Virginia) is home to the US Federal Government and industry that supports the largest employer in the US and a thriving BioHealth and Life Science Industry. The region is home to the National Institute of Health, Food and Drug Administration, National Institute of Standards and Technology and industry leaders like GSK, AstraZeneca and Inova. There are over 800 Biotech companies, 2,500 Life Science firms, 70 federal labs and the Capital Health region has numerous elite academic, medical and research institutions.
