Food Science and Human Nutrition Managed Placements

Are you looking for a cost-effective way to recruit new talent to add value to your business? Placements allow employers to benefit from our students' up-to-date knowledge and emerging leadership skills, long before they graduate. They bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm, intelligence, motivation and commitment and can:

  • Drive forward a project that your organisation may not have the resources to undertake
  • Provide a cost-effective method of overcoming temporary staff shortages
  • Identify talent for your future graduate recruitment pipeline, lowering future recruitment costs
  • Provide access to up-to-date, specialist knowledge, with the support of academics who are experts in their fields and have extensive industrial or organisational experience
  • Inject new, innovative ideas in an area where you’ve identified a skills gap
  • Enabling your current staff to develop managerial and mentoring skills

Northumbria University is committed to developing the employability skills of our students. We are looking for organisations to provide unpaid work experience for our BSc Food Science and Human Nutrition students, during their second year of studies.

The aim of the module is to embed employability into their curriculum allowing students to gain hands-on experience of a work setting, to explore the rules and responsibilities of a food or nutrition-related work environment. Much of the learning on this module will be experiential, with students spending full time placement hours in the work place.

Seminars, peer led workshops and tutorials will help students to prepare for the placement opportunity, support reflection and consolidate learning.

The placement is full-time for 4 weeks (Mon-Fri) commencing from Monday 29th April 2024 - Friday 24th May 2024.

If you are willing and able to support a student with their employability needs, have a project in mind they could collaborate on, or would like to know more about the placement module, please do contact Andrea Hillery, Employability Coordinator andrea.hillery@northumbria.ac.uk to discuss further.
