Let Newcastle University Assist Your Innovation Project in 2020 Are you an SME with plans to innovate a product, service or process in 2020? If so, Newcastle University’s ERDF-funded Arrow programme could help you along the way.

The University is home to 2,500 researchers working across many technology and subject areas. The Arrow programme offers a low-risk, low-cost way for eligible SMEs to develop a working relationship with them and tap-in to their expert knowledge.

Short projects will deliver immediately useful insight to your innovation project, and in testing the relationship you will have confidence in the value of continuing to collaborate with Newcastle University.

Arrow has already supported over fifty North East SMEs, including businesses from the life sciences and bio-technology sector, to work with Newcastle University experts, and we welcome you to join them.

Arrow has successfully worked with Magnitude Biosciences (https://magnitudebiosciences.com), a Durham based technology spin-out, which provides a screening platform for automated, rapid testing of drugs for their ability to slow ageing. Working the Arrow team, Magnitude were able to collaborate with Dr Satomi Miwa and Prof Thomas von Zglinicki, leading researchers in the field of ageing at Newcastle University.  Discussions with University academics led to the development of a new client output and improved the company’s understanding of pharma customers. As part of the Arrow project extensive experimentation produced data to validate Magnitude Bioscience’s Healthspan system. This has led directly to Magnitude Biosciences securing second-round funding, recruiting key new staff, and boosted the credibility of their marketing collateral.

"For a short project, it has produced a lot of useful data particularly comparing healthspan with lifespan and producing evidence supporting the concept of the SMART lifespan. This data will be used to interest new customers especially once they’ve been published. We have successfully raised second-round investment from existing private investors, allowing us to recruit a Sales Manager, and this would not have been possible without the work done in the Arrow project and the expert insight from customers including Satomi and Thomas.”
